David Kirk Funk of Centreville, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on January 22, 2025, at the age of 51. His life was tragically cut short at Christiana Hospital after being struck by a drunk driver. Dave’s life, rich with love, dedication, and passion, was stolen far too soon. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Born on November 11, 1973, in Cheverly, Maryland, Dave was raised in Davidsonville. He attended South River High School, graduating in 1992. Following high school, he embarked on a lifelong career at Interstate Drywall, dedicating 39 years to building and maintaining the reputation of his family’s business. Known for his kindness, selflessness, humor, and unwavering commitment to excellence, Dave exemplified a “get-it-done-right-the-first-time” attitude. Dave was a passionate outdoorsman who loved hunting, shooting, and fishing. He absolutely loved coaching hockey, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. Above all, he was most proud of his family and the strong bonds they shared. A devoted husband to Christina Renee and a proud father of five children, Dave cherished his time with his four beautiful daughters, Breanna, Haley, Jamie, and Leah, and his strong, determined son, David Jr. His family was at the center of his life; he relished holiday traditions, the endless hockey games, practices and tournaments, and the many joys of being a pillar in his community. Dave touched the lives of everyone he met and will be remembered as a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a helpful friend to all. His legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. Throughout his life, Dave achieved so much through his hard work, dedication, and passion for the things he loved. A proud and accomplished hockey coach, he mentored players across several teams, including Queen Anne’s County High School, Delaware Ducks Hockey Club, and Lady Ducks, sharing his knowledge and love for the game while shaping the lives of countless young athletes. He also spent many years, with the Eastern Shore Hockey Association, and served as Vice President. For Dave, hockey wasn’t just a sport, it was a lifestyle and every player, parent and coach were family. Beyond hockey, Dave built an impressive career as the Vice President of Interstate Drywall, where his determination, perfectionism, and leadership upheld the reputation of the family business and inspired those who worked alongside him. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Christina Renee, and their five children: Breanna Cash (Daryus), Haley, David Jr., Jamie, and Leah. He is also survived by his grandmother, Nellie Funk his parents, Randy Funk (Darlene) and Alice Funk, his siblings, Jennifer Taylor, Jessica Thomas (Sean) as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Clifford Funk. Dave’s warmth and selfless spirit will be forever cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, dedication, and community will live on in the countless lives he touched. Though his time with us was far too short, the memories he leaves behind will remain in our hearts forever. |
